I haven't had a chance to play the game yet, (Hopefully that changes tomorrow,) so this little note escaped my notice until now. In most other systems, you're asked to either round up or round down for all calculations, usually to the detriment of the character, but BareBones Fantasy asks us to "round in favor of the character". This blew my mind. If there are other games that do this, I've never seen it. But it makes sense given that your characters are the heroes and should have the edge of fortune's favor. I just want to say I thought this was a brilliant and thoughtful touch.
BareBones Fantasy RPG is not associated with Skaldcrow Games' Bare Bones Multiverse, despite similar names. Check out Glenn's products by clicking here.
I enjoyed this as well!
With the fire this game seems to be catching in the industry, I wouldn't be surprised that we start seeing this and other BBF mechanics show up in other new or revised systems.
Ahem. D&D Next.
;-)
Can't we just give it a decent burial and last rights and call it "dead"?
Let's throw it a nice wake. Ale & BBF anyone?
'ere 'ere. DaD was splendid in 'is day; way, way back when. Then he grew old and crapped his pants. He always had stories to tell. Long, loooong stories, always modifying them and modifying them some more and modifying them more until you were sick of modifiers. Aye. Alas, it was his time. Now let's toss some dust on 'im and call it party! Anyone for a good ol' bonfire of D&D books?
Now, now, let's not be hasty. Burning books is never a good idea. Instead, let's read the books again, and remember all the good times we had with DaD. And just remember that every DaD sourcebook is a goldmine of material ripe for converting to BBF.
Sheesh. Ye' pansies. No right fun you are. :"P
I'm just remembering the well reasoned and adult conversations Bill and I had while making BBF. My old-school non-D&D background + 4e and Bill's old-school D&D background. Clash of the Dorks! lol
A wise gamer once said, "Keep all your gaming books, they are great resources. And remember, be excellent to each other."

@The Fifth Wanderer,
BBF does not use heavy math, I think you could easily drink into the night and play. I'm not saying we did this during a play test which influenced the game in any way. Nope.
Nothing will replace the buzz I had when I first opened that red box all those years ago.
Fond memories indeed.
Oh to have been present for those!
:-)
Oh yes. I recently bought $100 in used Aberrant and Godlike books just to draw material from them for Mutants & Masterminds.

Now that's the best endorsement of the game I've heard yet!
