Hi all,
Just joined up after getting revitalized to work on my AoW campaign; I'd picked up the rules when they came out last summer, and got a good start on fleshing out my ideas through the fall, but stalled out when our game group stayed on another campaign/game longer than I thought. Looks like the window has opened up again, at least for some one shots in the setting, if not a full campaign.
My setting is actually borrowed from 1st edition Feng Shui (not sure if 2nd kept this), which is the start (and eventual end) of the Silver Dragons faction at the end of the Shang Dynasty. The fluff in FS available on that time period was enough to line up with the real history and put together a coherent background. The last Shang emperor (more of a king) has succumbed to otherwordly (demonic) influences and is letting the empire rot with corruption. Meanwhile in the west the Chou/Zhou are preparing to rebel and from that the Silver Dragons emerge as a sect of sects (or sect within sects); I'm using the Sage Mantis Clan as inspiration for them at this time.
Timeline will run from about 1059 BCE to 1046 and the defeat of the Shang; the PCs will be involved in the Silver Dragons and that metaplot, but also doing their own thing in between those assignments as they wander around western Shang (or beyond).
I'm generally keeping things historical but I admit I'll be a bit anachronistic in terms of architecture in the cities and probably the dress. This all predates Taoism and Buddhism, but the shamans will be a bit better dressed here than they probably were historically in 11th century BCE...
Sword & Sorcery fantasy is my other jam, and I'm noticing most adventures for that genre port over really well into wuxia, some creature changes and the like are needed, but the basic low fantasy/bad magic tropes are there.
I look forward to seeing any new stuff that comes out, new weapons or things of ingenious design would be great.
Cheers,
Chris
I hope you have a great time with your Art of Wuxia campaign! One thing that will provide early success and lots of character driven stories is having your players fill out the back page of the character sheet as a group. It is a gold mine of ideas for players and the GM and you can't help but have tons of ideas to work with.
Here's to a successful campaign launch!
Thanks for the tip and wishes!
