What do you all think of this game option? We are considering it for Covert Ops(TM) game. In BBCO, everyone is human and has the same MOV. A character with higher DEX can sprint faster because he's more likely to roll successfully. What would you think if we added the following? (note it's worded just like INIT in Step 8)
MOV is 8, add +1 if your DEX is 65 or greater, add an additional +1 if your STR is 65 or greater. Therefore, MOV score ranges from 8 to 10.

Makes perfect sense to me
I like it to. I think it makes sense for both BBCO and supers with super speed. :)
I will be using this mechanic to make many dramatic (and unnecessarily dangerous) action rolls. Shatner-Style!
Well, for supers, just +1 movement would be stifling. Perhaps +1 for every 10 points over 50. It scales, it's easy to remember and do math for and its realistic. (When I was in middle school, most of the other kids ran, literally, almost twice as fast as me. In high school and adulthood that changed, but I could see a track star still running twice as fast as me, which means twice the distance in the same amount of time.)
Honestly, I think it's a decent rule to add to the core mechanics. It allows for some variation in ability for any character of any race.
I like it. It should be core with a note that some races may have modifiers to this.
Do you have a suggestion?
??
I'm suggesting this new idea become core with a note that some races my have modifiers to the total (example: elves +1 since elves already have a move of 9 which is 1 more than humans, dwarves - 2 etc.).
Or maybe this is unneeded complexity in core. I'm leaning that way.
I'm not sure it makes sense for BBF, I like the races having different MOV which is part of deciding who you want to play. Right? Not sure how I feel about a fast, strong halfling moving as fast as a weak, left-footed elf. lol. But that's me, ygmd.
For an all-human setting, it kinda makes sense and does not complicate the creation process, imo.

Agree 100%.

I agree as well
I don't know, I kinda like the idea of a strong halfling moving as fast as a weak, left-footed elf. It's realistic. Besides, all things considered, if these are two player characters, they have the option of having their character be either the strong halfling or the slow elf, and even the slowest elf, the halfling could just barely keep up with. It doesn't take anything away from any of the races, just adds a bit more dimension. That is, of course, just my opinion.
I don't think you need 'modifiers', so much as just keep the rules as is and add the modifiers for MOV. (In other words, a human still starts at 8, an elf at 9, a halfling at 7, etc)
That also reminds me, why are dwarves slower than halflings? That just doesn't add up in my head.
Different strokes for different folks.
[ This card entitles you to change MOV for dwarves ]
lol
