So, I'm planning the next mission, and there will be enormous time pressure on the team - they have to equip, get to the hijacked boat, and do their job within five hours. In order to drive home the time pressure, I've come up with the following plan:
To determine if a given piece of equipment is available, subtract 1D from the cost in mission points. If the result is zero or less, the item is available from the Weathervane vault. Otherwise, the result is the number of hours until it arrives.
So a 3 point Surveillance Pack is available immediately on a roll of 3-10, but on a roll of 1, it will take two hours to arrive. Once a piece of equipment is requisitioned, the equipment points are spent, whether it arrives in time or not.
(Note: This is not something I plan to use all the time. It is a one time rule for special emergency circumstances. Doing this all the time would be . . . cruel.)
That's a fun idea! I might try that in my next session. It's cruel to make the agents lack proper gear, but forces them to think on their feet, which usually results in more bullets being hurled about. When you don't have a gadget to solve your problems, a bullet is a pretty versatile solution lol
Like I said, it's a special circumstance with a lot of time pressure. It wouldn't work to do this all the time, but yeah, keep 'em on their toes.
When all you have is a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
I'm also wondering if they'll figure out by themselves that there's a difference between "you can't let anybody know the CIA was involved" and "you can't let anybody know that there was a third party involved."
Working on some more detailed computer hacking rules, too, more than a little inspired by Millennium's End.
