I recently came across this old article about Sci-Fi Drama Cards (I believe it was posted way back in 2010)...
I was wondering if anybody still uses them in their games and whether they have considered using them for Covert Ops games?
I'm presently in the very early stages of developing a CO campaign - it's likely to be set in the future and will probably be a mix of Strike Back, Ghost in the Shell (using The Neumann Protocol Operational Addendum) and Night's Black Agents (with a blend of Ultraviolet).
Anyway, it struck me that, while the cards were designed for Sci-Fi settings, they could easily be adapted for use in Covert Ops games.
FWIW - my game groups are used to having Adventure Cards in our Savage Worlds sessions so this would feel quite normal for them.
Any thoughts?
Does nobody have an opinion on this? :(
Considering just how damn good both BBF and CO are, I was kind of hoping that this forum might be a little more active. :(
Robert,
Thank you for the compliment. I wish both Bill and I had more time to devote to all things DwD including these forums. I just changed jobs after getting my Master's Degree, and Bill is very busy at his day job as well. Though we talk constantly about the things we are doing DwD wise often times "real life" gets in the way of our doing everything we would like game wise. We are working hard at being responsive, and creative but I cannot deny at times it is hard to keep up with everything.
Now that I am a little more settled--been on the new job for two weeks --I am hoping I can set up a schedule that will allow me to be more responsive here.

Hi Mark
I fully understand how real life gets "in the way" as it were :) I appreciate you taking the time to respond and I can only complement you on everything you have achieved with DwD Studios.
Now - while we're talking in this thread, would you consider sharing your thoughts on possibly using the Sci-Fi Drama Cards in a Covert Ops setting? I personally think they can be a great addition (my present game groups love using Adventure Cards in Savage Worlds) and I just wanted to get other peoples thoughts on the matter.
Robert,
If your group likes that sort of thing I can see it working really well in a Covert Ops setting. As with all things it is a matter of balance. The cards have to fit into the feel of the setting and play type. You don't want a card tossed into play that kills the feel of tension, or acts like a Deus ex Machina for the group so they can get away with not playing smart. Cards that add to the atmosphere I like best. Cards that in some way help create buy in or increase the amount of investment of the player in his character or the situation are great too.
I hope I have explained myself well. Even though I have run groups on and off for 35 years I don't usually talk much about my GMing preferences or style.

Thanks for the input Mark; it's always easy enough to leave the Deus ex machina style cards out for more gritty games. I'm thinking of getting the cards printed professionally at a local printer so that they fit in well with the initiative and status cards.
