Hi,
after reading through the rules I was thinking about resistances and combat: right now the warrior skill is used to attack, but not to execute parries.
Wouldn't it make more sense if parrying/dodging were handled via the warrior skill?
BareBones Fantasy RPG is not associated with Skaldcrow Games' Bare Bones Multiverse, despite similar names. Check out Glenn's products by clicking here.
I can see parrying, but not dodging.
1. Let the GM decide.
2. I'd do both, let the player use the higher of DEX or Warrior. Keep in mind that if you don't have levels in Warrior, or make it a Primary or Secondary skill at the beginning, your warrior skill is only half your Dex and/or Str. Therefore, using DEX to dodge or STR to parry makes sense for those who aren't pumping up Warrior at all.
My $0.02.
We used DEX to keep things simple and consistent: all resistance checks are ability checks. But "simple and consistent" doesn't always mean "realistic" -- and yes, using Warrior score is a bit more realistic and also gives more weight to the Warrior skill while in combat, if that is something you prefer.
Thanks everyone for their advice and thanks to DWD Studios for the insight in your design philosophy
Cheers
