I NEED printed books. Capitalized NEED. :)
That way I can buy the books and give them to my gamers.
Thanks for the excitement, Jasales. We want to provide a POD option of some sort. Right now we're working on getting quotes for doing a print run of books and then perhaps doing a kickstarter project so folks like you who want them can pre-order and fund the release. It's all preliminary, but it looks like that's the direction we're leaning.
EDIT: 11/12 Now that the game as been out for a couple of weeks we are finalizing any edits and will make a POD option available through RPGNow in the next week or two. There is a topic in the forums "BBF Edits | Final Call" if you have any edits to discuss.
BareBones Fantasy RPG is not associated with Skaldcrow Games' Bare Bones Multiverse, despite similar names. Check out Glenn's products by clicking here.
Great to hear there's going to a PoD version of the rules available soon!
Great News! Just out of curiosity, when people go PoD do you guys make any extra cash in the process since it is technically a new/different product?
Yes, it will be a new product on RPGNow. You'll be able to buy the print only, print/zip or just the electronic zip. However, if anyone buys the POD book after having purchased the zip file, they effectively purchased twice. We believe some people are waiting for the POD version before they buy, so they don't have to pay twice. We won't mark up the print version more than we mark up the PDF. We'll pretty much make the same one way or the other.
Originally we wanted to do a print run from a professional printer with extras (fold out map, 3 panel GM screen) and shrink wrap it together. A lot of fans (more that we would have ever guessed!) wanted a POD option, we don't want to make anyone wait so we spent several hours getting the formatting setup correctly according to RPGnow instructions. As a bonus we've had a lot of feedback and edits for the game, perfect timing to push out a new shiny zip and offer a POD.
Will there be a hardback version? I much prefer hardbacks.
I really really like that Kickstarter idea. Best of luck. I'll be eagerly watching for it.
Yep, even with all the tech toys these days, there's lots of people I know that'll want a print version. Glad to hear it's coming.
