I notice something today that I thought I would clarify.
By spending DP, a player can boost their 4 core stats, strength, dexterity, logic and willpower.
When a character dies, the player must make a strength roll to see if the character pulls through or is completely deaded.
If a player increases their strength skill to 100+, they will never fail that roll and thus... CAN NEVER DIE! :o

That's why I always cast hinder before slyaing them. Lol
Wouldn't the roll to survive be at their base value regardless? We were discussing this in another topic, but Hinder ends when the encounter ends, and the roll to survive is after the encounter. Is that not correct? or is this a fuzzy point?
Wouldn't they still fail on a 96-99?
Well, I was wandering about that. Say that your Strength skill is 110%, there is not a reasonable chance of you failing the roll, so is it even necessary to roll? Lets reverse the issue, if you were trying to attack and the muti-action penalty had dropped your percentage of success to a minus figure, you would not even roll, despite the chance of a success on a 00 - 05.
Strength is not a skill, it is an ability score.
I interpret the rule as "reasonable chance of failure" for the task... not as a literal representation on the odds of the roll.
It's also my understanding that the ability scores don't explicitly represent percentiles, which is easy to overlook since you are rolling "percentile dice". This alone qualifies the check for a reasonable chance of failure. The very existence of the 96-99 automatic failure for checks would automatically qualify it as well... I've bet on worse odds at a roulette table, and despite the dismal state of my gambling prowess, we know that its possible for a two number split to hit. (it just so happens that mine never do) :P
The only scores specifically outlined as percents are the skill scores and even in that case... 5% is a reasonable chance of failure.
And don't forget that like all checks, GMs can assign modifiers based on circumstances and situations.
This is... really runny. You can't die, technically. :-)
It's 4e all over again!
I guess the more heroic you get, the less likely swords and staves can kill you, however you'd still fail on a 96-99.
Abilities are/have a Score.
I took a poll while playing tonight, 1 GM says you fail on a 99, 2 GM's say you fail on a 96-99.
All of this is assuming the enemy doesn't slit your throat while your unconscious, right?
Correct :-)
I would also assume if there is a TPK, there is no STR check to live. Nobody around to help you, ya know?
