Hey! First post here! After some lurking, I finally started playing DwD games consistently (AoW / BBf dual campaign) and soon we'll dig into CO!
AoW is (at the moment) the main one so I was curious about what kinda stories are you currently playing!
For us is a horror / intrigue hybrid, where three brothers return to their family castle in the Golden Capital after years away, while their parents got accused (and died in prison) for treason.
Behind all of this, there is a huge plan of the Ming descendants to infiltrate the city, starting from the dreaded family house, the Dreaded Feng Castle, where obscure events used to take place in the last few decades!
Avoid to bore you with unnecessary details, but here it is. :) A "hill House" kinda thing set in the fantasy world of Longhzi! \m/
Hope to see more content from DwD Studios! We really love the system, one of the best of the last decade!
Cheers!
Marco
Your campaign sounds fantastic! So much potential for politics, intrigue, mystery, assassins, danger, hidden pasts, secrets to uncover. I love it!
I don't know what "hill House" references. Do you mean something like the movies "House on Haunted Hill" and the remakes?
As for future content for AoW, I'm the only author, regrettably. I did recently run a campaign set based out of the city of Bastion in Longzhi. You can see some play reports by one of the players and a very good friend here. Here are a few things you may find useful in your own campaign. Some or all of this may appear in a future product.
The Peoples of Longzhi
Listed below are the largest ethnic groups in Longzhi. These are broad and crude generalizations. Expect many subtleties and variations in customs depending on backgrounds, geographic location and religion. The entries below for Location, belief systems and Languages list the most popular first.
Longren(LONG-rehn)
Location: Most lands
Belief Systems: Gianshan, Xingfu, Ancestor Spirits and The Old Gods
Languages: Youshi and Laolong
Their name means “People of the Dragon” in Laolong. The Longren make up the majority of the people in most lands. While their culture in the Dragon Lands is ancient there is some indication that the culture of some of the ghost tribes predates them. They prefer linen wear of clean lines or silks if of a wealthier background. Elaborate embroidery is common in fashionable or important government official wear. In nearly all styles of dress, the waist is cinched with belt or wrap. Sleeves are loose at the wrist but not overly long. They wear their hair bound up at the top and various hair pins and hats denote wealth, status or occupation. The Longren of Jin speak Zhenyan and follow The Old Gods more than any other religion. Longren make up about 2/3rds of the population of Bastion. They are rare in the rest of the Demon Lands.
Renmin (rehn-MEEN)
Location: Dragon Empire and Demon Lands
Belief Systems: Folk Gods, The Old Gods and Xingfu
Languages: Cuye, Nanyu and Youshi
Their name means “The People” in Laolong. The Renmin or Ghost Tribes are more rural, often living in clans and tribes. Their settlements can get as large as small cities though these are never very large. Some are nomadic and only meet up in large camps at certain seasons. They dress in homespun linens, wools and/or furs depending on the season. The waists are seldom cinched and left loose. They wear colorful beads and ribbons in their hair and beards. They wear their hair loose. Natural dyes are used in clothing but are muted compared to the fancy silks of the Longren. There are countless variations in customs and language.
Demon Lands Renmin
Tiankongren (TIAN-kong-rehn)
The most common renmin of the Demon lands are called the “Sky People” in their Cuye tongue. They wear cottons, wools, leather, furs and different dyes can indicate different tribes or social standing. Tiankongren are all tribal except those that live in Bastion.
Xuegui (SHOO-gway) Their name means “Snow Ghost” in the Cuye tongue. They live in the frozen tundra between the Frost Peaks and the Spear Mountains. These nomads hunt and fish the tundra but keep to themselves.
Yedao (YEE-dao) The yedao or “Night Knives” as they are called are practitioners of ancient magics and lore that predates most current cultures in the Demon Lands. They are a dangerous folk and view all outsiders as enemies. They speak the Night Tongue of demons, known as Yeshe (YEE-shuh).
Yingren (YING-rehn) The Yingren are only mentioned occasionally in old Bastion ranger texts or those very few who have traded with the Xuegui. It is not known if these people truly exist. They are said to live far north beyond the lands where the Xuegui roam in a castle made of ice. They are called the “Hawk or Eagle People” in the Cuye tongue.
New Kung Fu Styles
4th Realm Sentinel
Style Type: External
Weapons: Battleaxe, Chain Whip, Fei Cha, Greataxe, Kwandao, Lajatang, and Spear
Techniques: Danger Sense (Yin Sight), 4th Realm Aura*, Iron Skin (Warding Scales of the Dragon), Keep at Bay (The Open Door is a Toothed Maw), Mighty Blows (Heaven Ringing Resounding Strike), Swiftness (Hidden Paths Between the Realms)
This style is only taught to the Bastion Sentinels that are sworn demon hunters. These are rangers that are willing to go through a strange and secret rite where they become something more and can touch upon what they call the 4th Realm. The 4th Realm Sentinel style was developed by the most seasoned rangers of the Demon Lands to defeat demons and other monsters. It combines strong defenses (using the fei cha) and maximum punishment to a single target. The style is characterized with powerful weapon strikes and solid kicks and punches designed to drop a foe in one blow.
Night Knife
Style Type: External
Weapons: Jian (pairs), daggers (thrown or paired). Techniques: Counter Attack, Feint, One Against All, Two-weapon Fighting, Whirlwind Attack, Worrying Strike*.
The deadly style of the Yedao tribe has been seen more frequently of late. While thrown needles and unarmed combat are used to good effect, most opponents only see two deadly blades paired in a harmonious dance of death.
*New Kung Fu Techniques
4th Realm Aura
Your armed and unarmed attacks affect demons as if they were from magic weapons.
Worrying Strike
Fast deadly strikes from multiple directions create the illusion of several deadly attacks all occurring at once. Unlike a feint, most of the attacks are quite real. If your opponent tries and fails to resist this attack, they advance their multi action penalty twice, as if they had made two resistance rolls. This technique may be used once per turn and requires the use of two weapons.
New Gear
Weapon: Fei Cha*
Type: M
#Hands: 2
Range: --
Attribute: STR 50 & DEX 50
Damage: 2D+1
Cost: 12tl
*+5 to attacks made with Keep at Bay kung fu technique.
Alchemical Fire Starter: 3tl. Alchemists can make this using the Explosives expertise at a material cost of 1tl and no penalty to the Alchemist check to craft them.
New Genre Option
Weapon-in-Hand
Combatants may choose what weapon they carry to be in their hand at the beginning of any combat turn. Thus, drawing and switching weapons does not take an action if done at this time. If a different weapon is chosen at the beginning of a subsequent turn, the previous weapon is assumed to be dropped.
Ah, and here is something else:
Shadow Blood Serpents (Demon)
These terrifying demons appear as large smokey serpents with the heads of lions. Their eyes glow red. They hunger for the death of mortals. Ming sorcerers would bind these demons to guard certain locations.
STR 30 BP 30 Rank 2
DEX 65 INIT 2 Nature Evil
LOG 20 DR 0
WIL 30 MOV 15 (fly) Travel 15 Leagues
Bite 65%, 2D, +Bleeding Condition (special effect – the blood turns into a black vapor as soon as it leaves the wound, the Shadow Blood Serpents appear to inhale this smoke-like substance)
Demon – affected normally by magic weapons and spells (half damage from all other attacks).
I don’t have a campaign per se but I did do a one shot where the PC fought all three levels of bad guys. The Big Bad was the master of the Butterfly Clan! Glowing palm and all! The PCs first fought mooks of the Butterfly Clan then they ran across the 4 Killers then going after the Master himself they also had to fight Hopping Corpses. : )
Sounds like a good time and a fun way to introduce badguy fights.
